Welcome to Saigon
Hey all, sorry for not posting more meaningful writing yet, but am transitioning to a work-phase here in Manila and have just started getting around to sorting my multimedia content and have not been able to put pen to paper yet. In the meantime, I wanted to share some media, and today, I've finally uploaded a video. This one is at a traffic circle in Saigon (which is pretty tame by Vietnamese standards!) and shows me crossing a road. Not very exciting, I know, but it does give you a good sense of the sights and sounds of everyday traffic there. Hope you enjoy!

Ah, yes the traffic in Saigon. The key is to not stop for oncoming traffic when crossing the street. We learned that very quickly as our first crossing of the street included a few stops for oncoming motorcycles and we nearly got ran over. Then we decided to watch the locals cross (duh!)and discovered you don't even look at the oncoming vehicles...the drivers are masters at maneuvering around pedestrians. Great video! Are they still calling it Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City?
I actually do stop, but it's more of a pause. I wait for the moto's to decide if they want to go to the outside or the inside, then take the next step. But yeah, the key is totally to be aggressive and own the road. :) As for the city name, I'm not sure to be honest. I think most people are okay with either. Government officials on the other hand..... :)
I hardly saw any traffic regulation. Is there? But, it seems they can find own way to go through...peace and in harmony.:-)
I think Vietnam and Indonesia are the two places I've been where I am scared to cross the street.
